Host City

Lubumbashi (former name: Élisabethville ) is the second-largest city in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, located in the country's southeastern most part, along the border with Zambia. The capital and principal city of the Haut-Katanga Province, Lubumbashi is the center of mining in the region, acting as a hub for many of the country's largest mining companies. No definite population figures are available, but the city is estimated to be home to around 1.5 million people.

The official unit of currency is the Congolese Francs (FC), divided into 100 cents. US dollars are also accepted in all hotels and locations, particularly in popular tourist areas. Major currencies can be exchanged at “bureaux de change” in the city and usually offer a better rate on travelers cheques than banks. Foreign exchange can also be done at the expo venue or at Luano International Airport. US dollars are often favoured, and most excursions, tips, drinks and curios can be paid for in US dollars.
